According to its makers, the Equus from Hyundai is “the number-one shopped premium luxury sedan”, reportedly leaving behind stunners like BMW 7-Series, the S-Class from Mercedes-Benz, Lexus LS, Audi A8, and Jaguar XJ. Now it’s true that we haven’t done our research and we don’t exactly know if “number-one shopped” means “best-selling”, but if the information is accurate, then this is a pretty awesome record for Hyundai!
For the 2014 model year, the South Korean automaker has introduced a really long list of modifications and improvements. The chassis, the powertrain, the exterior and the interior have all been upgraded, and now the Equus looks and feels more amazing than ever. At a first glance, connoisseurs will instantly notice the LED fog lamps and the altered front fascia, which includes a nicely restyled grille.
Now the car has an extra driving mode called Sport and promises better handling and improved ride comfort. It is powered by the same 5.0-liter direct-injected Tau V8 engine from 2012 mated to the same 8-speed automatic gearbox, which means that the driver will enjoy the same amount of muscle as before: 429 HP.
Modifications are a bit more obvious on the inside, where the center stack and instrument cluster are all new. Lots of genuine wood and ultra-premium leather enhance the luxury level, just like the 9.2-inch monitors and redesigned center console controlsfor the rear seat passengers. The driver will enjoy a9.2-inch display in the center of the dash, plus a 7-inch or 12.3-inch LCD screen as part of the instrument cluster. So would you buy this sedan over a Jaguar, Lexus, Mercedes, BMW, or Audi?
