For the 2012 London Olympics, McDonald’s – the largest chain of hamburger fast food restaurants – is determined to awe the world with its largest restaurant, flaunting 32,000 square feet (3,000 square meters) of space. How big is that? Approximately half the length of an American football field.

This huge two-story building will be one of a total of four McDonald’s restaurants built inside and around the Olympic Park. Another one will be set in the media center, and the athletes’ village will also benefit of one. Jill McDonald, the company’s UK chief executive, said: “We want everyone who visits our Olympic Park restaurants to have the best possible customer experience, and are confident that the look and feel of these cutting-edge designs will provide that environment”.

McDonald’s has estimated huge sales for the Olympic season (between July 27 and August 12, 2012), saying that it will probably sell approximately 1.75 million meals in this period. The huge restaurant alone will need some 470 staff members, while the total number of employees at all four Olympic Park outlets will be of approximately 2,000 people during the games. They are expected to sell about 100,000 sets of fries, 50,000 Big Macs, and 30,000 milkshakes. McDonalds has been an important Olympics sponsor since 1976.
