The Green Street Loft in New York

Completed in 2008 by Slade Architecture, the Green Street Loft is in fact a former industrial/commercial space in New York, turned into a luxurious 3,000 square foot loft.

The space is divided into different areas by 8 foot tall freestanding volumes. One of the volumes is an aluminum bookcase built for the owner’s collection of Korean trunks and books, which separates the main living areas from the study.

A second volume, which comprises the desk area on one side and a closet on the other, is separated from the third volume through a corridor which can be closed off with hidden doors. This third volume has a walk-in closet and the master bedroom, which can be divided with a sliding wall into two bedrooms. A 16-inch rough stone platform lifts the bedrooms and bathrooms from the rest of the floor. The Masterbath is ingeniously built to be a convertible tub/shower. Just remove the teak slat floor of the shower and there you have a large bathtub.

Beautiful and vibrant colors have been used to give life to this former industrial loft: intense red for the powder room, four beautiful green shades for the fire stairs, bright orange for the shelves in the master bedroom, blue and silver for the custom silk rug in the living room and orange for the one in the study.

The kitchen features a beautiful 19’ long and 48’’ wide Mokore table, which can seat 20 persons, a marble countertop and the stainless steel lower cabinets. It is worth mentioning that the original industrial floor was kept.

Slade Architecture proved that they were able to see beauty where it was least expected and they did a really good job designing this bright and modern loft.
