The von Essen hotel group has created some record breaking gourmet dishes over the years and here is their latest deed: the world’s most expensive afternoon tea, priced at £550 (or approximately $900) per couple. Other “most expensive” von Essen products include the Platinum Club Sandwich, priced at £100 ($162), made from special ingredients, including 30-month air-cured Iberico ham and the most expensive first date package, priced at £45,000 ($73,750) per couple.

Located in Berkshire, the Cliveden House is part of the von Essen hotel group and here chef Carlos Martinez created the amazing afternoon tea menu that this article is about. It includes Beluga Caviar (priced at £4,000 per kilogram), white truffles (at £2,500 per kg) and Da Hong Pao Tea made from a thousand years old plants (£2,000 per kg). After the tea, customers will be pampered with a glass of Dom Perignon Rose, “the King of Champagnes”.

Also on the menu there is the Cliveden House Chocolate Cake with Gold Leaf, made with the most expensive chocolate in the world – Amedei Porcelana. To go with the cake you will also be served a rare coffee, priced at £50 per cup.

The executive head chef at von Essen, James Parkinson, said “We wanted to create the best afternoon tea experience in the world and I think with this selection, we have achieved our goal”. Cliveden announced that they will donate half of the profit coming from the afternoon teas sold between June 12 – July 12, 2011, to the Marie Curie Cancer Care.
