The Amazing Cove Way House by Bedmar and Shi

The Amazing Cove Way House by Bedmar and Shi (20)

Cove Way House is a stunning architectural project by Bedmar and Shi studio from Singapore. Located in Sentosa Island, the contemporary residence offers 8,212 square feet of living space. Bedmar designed it to perfectly integrate into the slower paced lifestyle of the island and take in all the beauty of its surroundings.

The project reflects regional traditions of craft, but boasts a fresh air of contemporary architecture. “In a clever re-definition of a traditional tropical housing planning arrangement where the rooms are expressed as separate pavilions that sit in a larger garden, this house by Bedmar and Shi operates in a more dense urban situation. The rooms are still expressed as separate entities within a garden but the physical expressions of the “pavilion” and of the “garden” are here modern reinterpretations of the traditional forms and spaces.”

A combination of rustic natural finishes and highly polished modern materials give the Cove Way House a unique personality. Bedmar used roughly worked rubble walls, roughly finished plaster walls, naturally finished teak, stainless steel, and a lot of glass, including for the flooring of the bridges.

The most impressive room of all is the huge main living room, which was “designed as a lightweight glass box that sits inside what feels like a larger garden room”. This large space opens to the outside world through full double height screen walls made of teak, which can be pivoted outward like doors. The roof has a similar design, thus further accentuating the “glass box” feel of the room. See more in the pictures below.
