The precious book is entirely hand-made, containing 140 individually hand-torn pages made from 350gsm museum archive grade paper. All the artwork is hand-printed with pigment inks that are UV protected. Even the binding was made manually using a traditional binding press. The leather is particularly special, because it comes from Russia and it has been recently recovered from a salvage operation by an American.
Called Golf, this book was created by Paul Skellett and Simon Weitzman and it was published by Wonderland Publications. The two authors, artists and TV producers knew almost nothing about golf when they started their project. But in the four years that they spent working on the book, they gathered a lot of interesting information and put it all together in an artistic way. Each copy of Golf is worth $48,000 and tells about the history of the game, the game itself and its courses.
Cheaper versions will also be produced in the future. One hundred prints will be made available next moth for $350 a copy, and later this year 2,100 more copies will be released in smaller, collector’s edition for about $600.
