The Tag Heuer Monaco timepiece was initially launched all the way back in 1969, and it was praised by connoisseurs for its advanced technologies, particularly its Chronomatic Calibre 11 movement. Just in case you’re not aware, this was the first automatic movement that was made available to the general public, so as you can probably imagine, it enjoyed quite a lot of attention back in the day.
Furthermore, the Monaco was worn by Steve McQueen himself during the Le Mans film, and this only served to increase the piece’s popularity. Now, so many years after the original release, Tag Heuer is bringing back the Monaco timepiece in its initial design but with a series of modern improvements. The watch flaunts a retro Tag Heuer badge, a date window above the six o’clock marker, a 39mm case and the Calibre 11 movement. However, it also comes with a see-through caseback, and with a plastic dome that covers its face.
Priced at $5,900, this updated version of the Monaco watch can be purchased at Tag Heuer’s online store.
