Royal Wedding Season Continues in Monaco

Prince Albert II of Monaco with Charlene Wittstock (2)

Prince Albert II is currently the head of state in Monaco and beautiful Charlene Wittstock’s fiancé. Their royal wedding will take place on July 2, 2011. For this wedding, the palace will open its gates to everybody, as the ceremony will be held in the Main Courtyard of the Palace.

The couple wanted to keep the event simple (well, as simple as they can, giving the circumstances), so there isn’t too much advertising going on about their marriage. Here are no princess dolls, little flags, plates with the couple’s engagement photo and other wedding merchandise.

Like Kate Middleton, Charlene is a commoner, a South African Olympic swimmer, to be more exact. She is the daughter of a sales manager who was also a swimming instructor. She met prince Albert in 2000, when she was already a competitive swimmer. They actually met at an international swimming competition in Monaco.

Prince Albert’s mother – Hollywood starlet Grace Kelly – passed away in 1982, which means that the principality has been without a princess consort for almost three decades. When Charlene Wittstock will officially become a princess she will be wearing a Giorgio Armani wedding gown. Even though this wedding is not as publicized as that of Prince William and his lovely wife, its importance is undisputable.
