Record-Braking Diamond and Emerald Tiara Sold at Sotheby’s

Record-Braking Diamond and Emerald Tiara Sold at Sotheby’s (2)

This superb tiara was sold yesterday at Sotheby’s Magnificent and Noble Jewels sale in Geneva. Together with the emerald-cut fancy intense pink diamond ring that we already told you about the other day, the tiara was the star of the auction. It flaunts eleven rare, pear-shaped Colombian emeralds that weigh 500 carats in total. They are set in individual cusp motifs, decorated with diamonds.

The tiara had been expected to sell for 4.6 million to 9.2 million Swiss francs, but it finally found a generous enough bidder who paid 11.3 million Swiss francs ($12.7 million) for it. This was a new record price for a jewel of its kind. The fancy intense pink diamond ring was also sold for a pretty impressive sum, though it didn’t fetch $17 million, as previously estimated. However, 9.6 million francs ($10.9 million) is not bad either for a diamond the size of a SIM card.
