Remember that generous donation of a Picasso? Not so long ago, an anonymous donor gave up a personal genuine Picasso painting, named “Jeune fille endormie” for charity. We wonder how must that person feel now, knowing that the precious painting sold for £13.5 million ($21.9 million) at Christie’s Impressionist and Modern Art auction in London.
The work depicts the artist’s teenage mistress, Marie-Therese Walter, and we believe that this was one of the reasons for which collectors showed so much interest in it at the sale. Two other Picassos seemed to catch bidders’ attention for similar reasons: “Femme assise, robe bleue” and “Bust de Françoise” representing two other lovers of Picasso, Dora Maar and Françoise Gillot respectively. In all, the paintings raised a whopping £42.2 million ($68.5 million).
