Located within an agricultural region in Northeast Bulgaria, the Observation House was completed by I/O Architects in 2015, and it impresses with a rather ingenious contemporary design. The architects took into consideration the fact that the project’s site benefits from panoramic views and distant visibility, which is why they based the home’s layout on a bastion-like volume complemented by a living area placed directly above it.
This means that the living area flaunts 360-degree views of the environment while benefiting from utmost privacy. The solid base blends nicely with the surrounding environment, and it does a fine job at making the entire project look much more modest than it is in reality. Inside, the Observation House boasts a minimalistic design that focuses on practicality and comfort. Wood cladding was implemented throughout most of the living areas in order to balance out the structure’s roughness.
