New Record Price for a 1955 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing $4.62M (6)

Even though the 2012 Barrett-Jackson auction has impressed us with some really astonishing vehicles and very impressive prices, this isn’t the only classic car show that has recently drawn our attention. Take for instance the Gooding & Company auction (also) in Scottsdale, which has sold some really amazing cars, one of which was a superb 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing.

These beauties usually sell for over $1 million, but this particular example exceeded everyone’s expectations when it fetched a staggering $4.62 million, all taxes included. This is one of only 29 examples ever built, and it features a beautiful aluminum alloy body.

The presale estimations for the vehicle were between $2,500,000 and $3,000,000, because these rare classics come up for sale only very rarely. Obviously, the winning bid has set a new record for the 1955 300SL Gullwing.
