Mesmerizing La Seo Cathedral In Zaragoza, Spain

As one of the most complex, beautiful and important cathedrals in Spain, La Seo Cathedral can be found within the city of Zaragoza, in Plaza de la Seo to be precise. This monumental landmark is one of the most important tourist attractions in the city and one of the most revered religious buildings in the country, especially since it boasts a historical heritage that dates back to Roman times.

To clarify, the site upon which the church can be found today used to represent the site of an old Roman forum of Augustus, which was subsequently replaced by the primary mosque of the city of Saraqusta. The building process of the cathedral itself commenced during the 12th century and initially followed the principles of the Romanesque style.

By 1704, the cathedral was expanded and modified extensively numerous times until it received its final and most impressive addition – a sublime Baroque tower that was designed in Rome in 1683.  Moreover, the main door of the cathedral was built in the Neo-Classical style during the 18th century, while the building’s apse and Choir stalls boast distinct Gothic and Mudéjar elements. Finally, the tomb of the famous archbishop Don López Fernández de Luna as well as the Parroquieta of San Miguel flaunt  remarkable Renaissance styles and trace their heritage all the way back to the 16th century.

As you can probably tell by now, the La Seo Cathedral of Zaragoza represents a superb mix of the world’s most famous and appreciated architectural styles. For this reason, this church definitely deserves a personal visit at least once in a lifetime.
