Mayor Bloomberg’s New Copper Luxury Bathtub

What do New York City, France and copper have in common? You might be tempted to day “The Statue of Liberty” and you would be right to do so, but we were actually thinking about NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s new luxury bathtub.

Yup, the billionaire politician and businessman will soon have a new handcrafted bathtub installed in his five-story Manhattan townhouse, which is currently enjoying a $1.7 million renovation. The tub was manufactured by experienced Normandy craftsmen in a process that took 250 hours to complete.

Two 2mm sheets of copper were used for it, and then a glossy nickel finish was added for effect. The French company commissioned for the job was Atelier du Cuivre, a 200 year old workshop with vast experience in the field.

Priced at over €10,000 ($13,300), the bathtub is reportedly also very large, being capable of holding approximately 300 liters (79 gallons) of water for a weight of 100 kg (220 lbs). They also say that copper has some health benefits for the body, which must be a good thing for the 71 year old mayor.
