Maserati Announces First Ever Diesel Engine for the Ghibli

Maserati’s newest luxury sedan, the Ghibli, will reportedly be a smaller version of the beautiful Quattroporte and a significant rival to goodies like the Jaguar XF and the 5-Series from BMW. Even though it has been revealed before its Shanghai Motor Show debut, information is still pretty scarce. However, a short preview and a few details are always welcomed.

So here it goes. The luxury car sits on a shorter platform than that of the Quattroporte and it boasts a sportier character. The front and rear ends of the two models differ a lot, with the Ghibli boasting a more prominent grille. Other differences can be noticed in the lower area of the front bumper, the brake lights, the tailgate, and the exhaust pipes.

One of the most significant features of the beautiful sedan is the fact that it will be powered by a diesel engine, which is a first for the Italian automaker. Of course, Maserati will offer a gasoline version as well, and both variants will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. So what would you choose: the 3.0-liter V6 turbo gasoline Ghibli, or the 3.0-liter V6 turbo diesel version?
