Katharine Hepburn’s Connecticut Mansion for Sale

Katharine Hepburn’s Connecticut Mansion (18)

Katharine Hepburn’s impressive estate in Connecticut has recently been listed by Barbara and Frank Sciame (its current owners) at $28 million. The mansion was built by Hepburn’s parents in 1913 with only $2,400 in the Borough of Fenwick, Old Saybrook. Twenty-five years later, the Great New England Hurricane destroyed the residence and the parents had to rebuilt it. Katharine lived in this luxurious mansion until her demise in 2003.

The next year, Frank Sciame, the chief executive of F.J. Sciame Construction, bought the property for $6 million, then raised the residence several feet, divided it into three sections and renovated it completely. The designer was John F. Wayne of West Hartford and the builder was  Robert B. Swain of Hartford .The house currently offers 8,300 square feet of living spaces that include 6 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms, a gourmet kitchen, a den and a chart room, all elegantly furnished with predominantly white furniture.

Customers can choose to buy the whole mansion or one of the three lots, separately. The home sits on a 3.4 acres property and boasts 680 feet of waterfront. It also has a golf course, as part of the Fenwick Golf Club. Another highlight of the property is the beautiful saltwater pond. Dreamy indeed.
