It’s not very likely that us commoners will ever have the chance to ride along the Duchess of Cambridge in her royal mode of transportation (whichever that might be), but a certain lucky bidder will have the pleasure of not only driving, but also owning her old 2001 Volkswagen Golf. Kate Middleton became the first owner of the vehicle when she bought it new, ten years ago. It was a £10,000 1.4-liter car that took her around London while she studied at St. Andrews University (together with Prince William). In 2007, Kate upgraded to an Audi and gave the blue Golf to her brother, James.
James in his turn sold the vehicle to a young customer, named Sonny Brazil, in 2009. The 21-year-old man recently decided to put the car up for auction on eBay, placing a reserve of £20,000 on it. Brazil only paid £1,400 for the car when he bought it from James and he didn’t even realize the car’s value until he discovered that the log book showed Catherine Middleton as its first owner. The auction will end on July 24.
