This exquisite chryselephantine (statue made of gold and ivory) by Jean-Leon Gerome is actually a 16.5-inch high copy of a larger bronze version. Named “Napoleon Bonaparte Entering Cairo”, the piece was made in 1897. The original sculpture (after which this one was made) was first exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1897 and then bought by the French government for the Galerie du Luxembourg. Now Rau Antiques is selling this smaller version for $198,000.
