Huge Times Square Concorde Model at Bonham’s

Huge Times Square Concorde Model at Bonham (1)

On May 5, 2011, Bonham’s will hold their Space History Sale. One of the highlights of the event will be the immense Concorde replica of the jet that was displayed in Times Square as a British Airways advertisement. Measuring 102 feet in length and 42 feet in width, this is a 50% scale model of the Aérospatiale-BAC Concorde. It weighs some 24,000 pounds, so it’s no wonder that it took five trailers to transport the model to New York, where it was assembled by a local company.

It was manufactured by L&L Tootling of Texas and these are some of its markings: the “G-BOAA” registration number on the aft fuselage, BA’s stylized Union Jack Logo on the tail, the British Airways name and swoosh on the sides of fuselage and silver surrounds on the front and rear cabin doors. The model is expected to fetch between $100,000-$150,000
