Mercedes is currently a company that’s associated with high quality, luxury and reliability, but the German automaker did not earn this reputation over night. Indeed, its renown has its roots in the 1950s and 1960s, when Mercedes used to build some of the finest automotive creations known to mankind. One such a creation is this UNIMOG from 1955, which is still in good working order even to this day.
This is the fourth vehicle of its kind to roll of the assembly line, and since just 1,210 were built in total, it’s also quite a rare sight. It is powered by an M180 gasoline engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, and it weighs in at 5,500 pounds. It has 4×4 drive, and it can take approach and departure angles at up to 45 degrees thanks to its low center of gravity and minimal overhang and the rear and front. It can be purchased in its current condition for $28,000, but you could also opt to have it restored, in which case you’d have to pay $140,000.
