Yes, that’s right, Google has bought The World. That is, The World archipelago in Dubai, of course. A few months ago we told you about how the man-made archipelago could not be completed due to some serious money and engineering problems (some of the islands had started sinking back into the ocean).

Now Google has announ ced that they purchased the islands and that they plan on reconfiguring them  to represent the company’s logo. Five islands in the capital “G” will be used by Google for their new headquarters  in Dubai and a private resort for the employees. The other islands will be sold to the highest bidders, as expected.

About the sinking problem, the company has announced that they employed only top engineers to take care of the situation. Once finished, all the islands will be completely secure. Photovoltaic panels and wind turbines will provide the archipelago with energy and Google is also considering tidal power as an additional power source. Two of the reported potential bidders for the man-made private islands are Cameron Diaz and Leonardo DiCaprio.Google Purchases Dubai’s World of Islands to Reconfigure into Google Shaped Floating Cities Read more: Dubai's World of Islands to Be Reconfigured into Google Shaped Floating Cities | Inhabitat - Green Design Will Save the World
