Fresh New Caterham 620R Replaces the Old R500 Model

The replacement for the successful Caterham R500 model is the newly launched 620R. Officially unveiled last month at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the car will go on sale this year at a quite prohibitive price that is £7,500 (approx. $11,500) higher than that of the discontinued R500.

So what will you get for £49,995 ($76,600)? A nice ride with gunmetal chassis, a new nose cone that ensures better airflow, 13-inch alloys with Avon ZZR rubbers, De Dion suspension at the rear, race-spec cooling, and a 2.0-liter Ford Duratec engine with an output of 311 bhp at 7,700 rpm, and 219 lb-ft of torque at 7,350 rpm.

The new Caterham will be able to rush from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.79 seconds. Of course, the interior was also designed to reflect the sporty nature of the car. This means that the 620R has a Q/R race-spec steering wheel, ergonomic switchgear, carbon fiber interior panels, race seats, and “performance-focused instrumentation”.
