You don’t really need to be a geologist in order to appreciate the fine quality of the Axis Pocket Transit gadget, but it can certainly help. Created by Brunton, this compact device might not look too impressive at a glance, but it actually includes quite a few innovative features. The prototype for the gadget was created by a college geology instructor named Lauren Heerschap and her husband, who ended up sending it over to Brunton.
The company went ahead and manufactured the prototype, and the result is the world’s first tool that’s able to measure strike and dip as well as plunge and trend, while still being able to provide directional assistance with the help of a compass.
