Founded by Alfredo Vignale just one year after the end of World War II, Carrozzeria Vignale of Turin eventually collaborated with Ferrari in order to create some of the best-looking road cars in existence. A fine example is this 1953 Ferrari 250 Europa Coupe by Vignale, which is set to be put under the hammer on December 10, 2015. RM Sotheby’s hopes to raise somewhere between $3.8 and $4.5 million for this masterpiece, which is powered by a 2,963 cc SOHC 60-degree V-12 engine with triple Weber 36 DCZ/3 carburetors.
The engine’s 200 horsepower output is kept in check by a four-speed manual transmission, while the driver’s comfort is ensured by an independent front suspension with double wishbones and double leaf springs. It’s also worth noting that this is a one-off Vignale design applied on an early road-car chassis. The vehicle was put on display in 1954 during the World Motor Sports Show in New York, and it received the 2012 Villa d’Este and 2015 Cavallino Classic awards.
