The renowned Portuguese superstar received most of these earnings in the form of a salary from Real Madrid, while the rest was cashed in from endorsements with Tag Heuer, Herbalife and Nike.
Things might have been different if Mayweather fought more than once in the last 12 months, but even so, the boxer managed to earn $44 million. Argentina’s Lionel Messi is not doing so bad either, as he managed to bring in $81 million last year. Tiger Woods is no longer included in the top earners’ charts, mainly because he hasn’t won a game since 2013. Other well-paid athletes are Roger Federer and LeBron James, who also made quite a bit of money through endorsements.
