The list of people who are wealthy enough to have their own museum is not very long, so it is a big deal when a new name is added on it, next to billionaires like Eli Broad, Mitchell Rales, Ronald Lauder, Francois Pinault, and a few others. Carlos Slim is the newest entry on the list with its Soumaya Museum.

Earlier this month, Forbes named Carlos Slim Heliu  the richest man in the world for a second year in a row. With a wealth of $74 billion, it is not a great surprise that he can afford to have his own museum. The building was named after Slim’s late wife, Soumaya, and it will house some 60,000 works of art. Famous artists like Da Vinci and Rodin will be represented here. Carlos Slim told the press that many of the works have been bought in Sotheby’s and Christie’s auctions.

The designer of the museum was Slim’s own son-in-law, Fernando Romero. Located in Mexico City, the modern building is part of a larger urban development, called Plaza Carso, which is an $800 million project.
