Azzam Luxury Yacht to Be the World’s New Largest Yacht

Apparently the highly coveted status of “owner of the largest luxury yacht in the world” is about to be stolen from Russian magnate Roman Abramovich. First there were rumors of a huge vessel, called Everest,  which would push the famous Eclipse from first to second place on the top ten largest motor yachts, and it was announced to hit the seas sometime in 2013.

Now a new name is out there menacing Eclipse’s privileged position. Called Azzam, the luxury vessel will reportedly be almost as long as two football pitches (180 meters or 590.5 feet). It will be built by German shipbuilders Lürssen in their facility in Germany, and it plans to sink the imposing Eclipse into oblivion.

There are no further official details about the superyacht right now, but one can speculate on its ownership. Given that Azzam means “determined” in Arabic (a very fitting name, we have to say), our guess is that the owner of the vessel is a rich magnate from Dubai. But these are mere speculations at the moment, so we’d better wait for more official details to emerge.
