Arc House is a stunning project completed by Maziar Behrooz Architecture in 2010. Built for a couple and their two big dogs, the residence boasts roughly 6,400 square feet of space. The property was reportedly bought for $1.25 million (according to the Wall Street Journal), and the building itself cost another $2.2 million.

Immediately noticeable is the large arching metal roof over the public spaces, which obviously inspired the name of the house. This arch holds the dining, kitchen and living areas in one open plan. The flat-roofed section in the rear houses the bedrooms, and the lower level holds a sitting room, an office, work out areas and a garage. Part of this level opens to a courtyard, thus permitting natural cooling.

The arc shape and the materials used for this project contribute to the house’s eco nature by reducing its energy needs. It actually consumes less energy than most houses its size. Aside from its prominent arching roof, the four-bedroom residence “barely rises higher than the grassy slope into which it’s built”.
