Mercedes-Benz has recently celebrated the 60th anniversary of their iconic Unimog truck model. “Unimog” stands for Universal Motor Gerät, where “gerät” means “machine” in German. For this special occasion, the auto manufacturer unveiled the awesome 60 Years Unimog Design Concept, a truck like you rarely get the chance to see. With a very futuristic design, the vehicle is not a prototype for a new product line, even though many of us would love it to be. However, this anniversary truck clearly shows that Mercedes-Benz is far from falling short on innovative ideas. The future is bright!

Based on the Unimog U 5000 chassis, the design concept boasts great off-road capabilities and some really appealing design cues. Some of them are the large red coil springs, the four equally-sized wheels with five star aluminum rim design, the headlights, and of course the fresh green hood and mudguards. The very first Unimog, born on June 3, 1951 was also a green-painted truck. Clearly, the difference between the two is immense, as a proof of the German automaker’s innovative spirit. The commemorative event took place on June 3, 2011, exactly 60 years after the first Unimog rolled out of the factory.
