Dutch creative agency DAY designed a new Museum Shop for the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. The concept was based on structured randomness of Van Gogh’s brush strokes. Designers made sure the interior design looked different from all angels still maintaining the overall sense of unity in design.
The idea was to design a store, which is recognizable, though very flexible, says Gesina Roters, creative partner at DAY. “We wanted to give full attention on products therefore distinctive neutral colors and basic tones were used to make them stand out”. The new shop is divided into three segments: Souvenirs, Design and Exclusive. Each one of them represents a different product range and has its own unique theme in the store. With this new concept, the museum shop will meet visitors’ demands even more effectively, offering special mementos so that they can relive their museum experience.
The project started in the summer of 2014 with the goal to create a distinctive retail environment for the visitors of The Van Gogh Museum. The new store contains more space and light and creates an overall welcoming and inspiring atmosphere.
