Albert Einstein’s stuff managed to fetch enormous prices before, which is why it shouldn’t surprise anyone that a leather jacket belonging to the famed theoretical physicist managed to bring in $147,000. The jacket was actually purchased by Levi Strauss & Co., whose representatives placed the winning bid during an auction held by Christie’s.
Apparently, the apparel piece was bought by Einstein during the 30s as he was acquiring his US citizenship. He wore it on several occasions, including the shoot for the April issue of TIME magazine in 1938. Interestingly enough, he was recognized by TIME as Person of the Century in the very same issue that showed Levi’s as the fashion brand of the century.
