In an industry that involves several moving parts, artificial intelligence is beginning to take over certain tasks, alleviating administrative burden and becoming healthcare’s new workforce. An AI agent is an AI system or program that autonomously performs tasks for a human or another agent. These bots are autonomous and can respond to stimuli in ways never before seen.
Now emerging in both back and front operations, agentic AI is handling tasks like insurance capture and verification, inbound referral processing and lab requisition forms. Because of its increase in popularity, 66% of physicians said they were already using AI in 2024. When artificial intelligence is used in this way, it can increase revenue and save time. Research shows a potential for 40%-70% cost savings when deploying agents. Additionally, tasks like referral processing that used to take a full 24 hours now take no more than 24 seconds.
These capabilities also lead to better outcomes for patients. Faster diagnoses, more face-to-face time with human care staff, customized treatment plans and overall increased patient satisfaction are a focus of these developments.
With the majority of doctors saying that AI is essential and is here to stay, it will not take long for humans to bridge the gap between interest and adoption. Learn more about AI agents in healthcare in the infographic below:
