If you are the loved one of someone who has died, it is your responsibility to make sure their funeral gets done correctly. A funeral can be a challenging and emotional time for everyone involved, especially if it is unique. Sometimes it is necessary to plan a funeral for a loved one who passed away recently, but other times it simply becomes a necessity.

1. Decide What Type of Funeral Service You Want

A funeral service can take many forms. Most people prefer a straightforward service, where the family and friends talk to express their love and respect for a loved one. Some people elect to have a small graveside service instead of a large memorial service. Some people might want to use a funeral home while others might want to hold a memorial service at a lake or someplace special to the deceased. There is one thing everybody must remember, though: no matter how you plan for the funeral, you must make sure of proper implementation.

2. Let Friends and Family Know

When planning a funeral service, the family and friends need to know who will be in attendance. It can be difficult for them to keep track of everyone close to the loved one when it comes time for their loved one’s funeral. When planning, it can become essential if some family members are out of town because that could delay when the funeral is held.

3. Choose a Burial Plot

Remember that no matter what you decide for the funeral service, there is always a burial that requires special attention. Some people already have their burial plots picked out while others might have to be arranged. Some people opt to be in a family cemetery or one close to where they were born while others choose to be buried in an area close to where they currently live.

4. Plan the Service

A funeral can be very emotional for those who attend the service. It is best to plan simple things that everyone can remember about the loved one. You can have a slideshow showing pictures of the deceased or have their favorite music played during the service. If you want to share stories about your loved one, feel free to do so.

5. Have a Backup Plan

There is nothing worse than planning a funeral and having something go wrong. You may have everything planned out, but there can always be complications for everyone involved. Take time to think about what could happen and have all the details solved before holding the funeral service. Whether it’s having a few backup music selections in place or having a few alternate pallbearers in mind, it’s always best to be prepared.

The deaths of loved ones are never easy, but the pain can be lessened by knowing that the funeral was planned correctly. The above steps will help you plan a funeral service that is meaningful and personal for your family members and friends.
