One of the three team cars that BF Goodrich sponsored during 1971 and 1973 will be offered at auction next month. RM Auctions will hold their Monterey sale on August 19, where one of the most coveted lots will be this 1969 Chevrolet BFG Stars & Stripes. The American Corvette is actually a true racing icon, with its first important win being a first place in the GT class at the Watkins Glen 6-hour race, in 1972. It also participated in the 12 Hours of Sebring, the 24 Hours of Le Mans (setting the GT speed record of 215 mph) and the 24 Hours of Daytona, all in 1973.

Delivered as a factory L88 Corvette Coupe, the car was finished in white over blue and was intended as a promotional vehicle for BFG. Soon afterwards, #49 was converted into a fierce racing car, powered by a Traco-built ZL-1 engines (one of the last).

In 2008, the BFG Stars & Stripes was restored to its original racing condition by Kevin Mackay’s New York-based Corvette Repair. Between 2008 and 2010, the racer won several major awards at Amelia island, Bloomington Gold, The Quail (Best in Class) and NCRS (National Corvette Restorers Society). It is expected to sell for between $750,000 and $950,000.
