One highlight of the upcoming RM Auctions Monterey Sale will be this outstanding 1953 Ferrari 375 America Coupe by Carrozzeria Vingale. This is one of the 12 original 375 Americas and one of the only 2 coupes with coachwork by Vingale. This particular example is actually the same one that was presented at the 1954 Geneva Salon auto show. At the event, the car boasted a silver roof and burgundy finish, small taillights and a lovely tan upholstery.
Ten years later however (1964) the vehicle received a metallic blue paint job and had its original taillights replaced by larger units that complied with the US specifications of the time. Under the hood it had a 4,523 cc capacity V12 engine that was capable of 300 bhp and a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time of less than 7 seconds. Its maximum speed was of 257 km/h (159 mph). The potent engine was coupled to a 4-speed Synchromesh manual transmission and the car’s speed was controlled by 4-wheel hydraulic brakes.
After having been restored to its original beauty (the burgundy finish and the original small taillights), the gorgeous Ferrari is now ready to find a new owner for between $1.75 and $2.1 million, according to its pre-sale estimates.
