World’s Largest Telescope Might Soon Become A Reality

Even though the Thirty Meter Telescope has been in planning and development for about a decade now, it still failed to materialize due to certain funding difficulties and a series of environmental concerns. However, we’re happy to announce that this remarkable piece of technology might become a reality sooner than we expect, since Hawaii apparently agreed to lease a parcel of land that would serve a key role in its construction.

The Thirty Meter Telescope is expected to boast a resolution that is 10 times higher than the one of the famous Hubble Space Telescope. This resolution would be achieved thanks to a massive mirror that measures 100 feet in width and comprises as many as 500 segments. The telescope would be built on top of the dormant Mauna Kea volcano, and once it would be fully operational, it would be used to scour the universe for stars, planets, dark matter and even life.

With an estimated cost of $970 million, this project is undoubtedly expensive and quite difficult to materialize in its final form, but we’re confident that the united forces of the Association of Canadian Universities for Research, University of California and California Institute of Technology will come up with a way to gift humanity with this masterpiece.
