World's First Electric Skates Are Named Rocketskates R5

Powered skates are usually showcased in movies and cartoons, and while we’re sure that there are quite a few crazy rocket-powered prototypes out there, commercial powered skates are not exactly easy to come by, probably because they can cause some serious injury if they’re not used properly. The world’s first electric skates are called Rocketskates R5, but don’t let their name fool you, as they don’t really rely on rockets for propulsion.

They are equipped with a pair of 50W DC Hub electric motors that allow them to reach a top speed of 7 mph. That might not sound like much in the automotive world, but it’s definitely decent in the skating world. After a 90-minute charge, they can run for up to 5 miles, and the really neat thing is that they also link to your smartphone via a dedicated app. The app shows various statistics and allows the user to change speed settings or control the skates using a remote control.

Available in blue or red colorways, the Rocketskates R5 can be purchased for just $499.
