Warhol’s Take on Queen Elizabeth II Up for Auction

As the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II is approaching, new must-have anniversary items are emerging on the market every day. The most coveted of all are those very special one-off creations or limited edition luxury products that only a few will have the honor to buy.

Among them is a proof copy of Andy Warhol’s 1985 portrait of the Queen. The rare item will be sold at Bonham’s Print Sale in London this summer on July 11. Expected to fetch between £40,000 and £60,000, this remarkable piece of pop art was created after a 1977 portrait of the Queen, painted to mark her Silver Jubilee.

The painting is considered to be a pun on Raging Queens, and it is part of a series that also includes portraits of the Queen of the Netherlands, Swaziland and Denmark. Another thing that makes this portrait really special is the fact that it was Warhol’s last print portrait before his demise in 1987.
