Pokémon’s popularity received a big boost with the release of the Pokémon GO game for mobile devices, but the truth is that this franchise has been popular for many years now, and we’re not just talking about video games. A public auction of comics and art held in Beverly Hills facilitated the sale of the world’s most expensive Pokémon card, which was taken home by a bidder for $54,9
The Pikachu Illustrator card is incredibly rare, as only 20 to 39 copies were ever made, and they were all distributed as prizes for winners of a comic illustration contest named CoroCoro. Back in the early 2000s, the card was first sold for about $23,000, and its value obviously increased since then. These cards were sketched out by Atsuko Nishida, and they depict one of the most renowned Pokémon of all time, Pikachu, as he is holding some drawing utensils.
