Audi first unveiled the Sportback concept in 2009 and a year and a half later the automaker proudly presented the production version of the alluring A7 at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. Now the 2012 version of the car has appeared and here is what it has to offer.
First of all, the 2012 Audi A7 Sportback is a hatchback, even though it is also conventionally described as a sedan. It is a direct competitor for the BMW 5 Series GT and some say that even the five-door Porsche Panamera might feel a little threatened by this new Audi creation.
With a base price of $59,250, the new A7 shares most of its mechanical parts and the platform with the 2012 A6 sedan. The U.S. variant will be powered by a 3.0-liter TFSI V-6 (the same as in the A6, A8, S4 and Q7). The supercharged direct-injected engine puts out 310 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque. The 8-speed Tiptronic transmission, sending power to all four wheels, comes as a standard feature.
The car flaunts a warm and inviting interior (packed with top-notch technologies), but it also offers a perfect driving experience: it’s intuitive, intelligent and predictable.
