The upcoming New York Auto Show will present plenty of new and amazing cars, one of them being the 621-hp 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG V12 Roadster. With a new, all-aluminum body-in-white and carbon fiber elements, the vehicle is 254 pound lighter than the previous version. Other significant changes have also taken place under the hood, in the engine department.
The 6.0-liter V12 engine is not new, but it has been upgraded to deliver more power and to ensure better performance than before. New manifolds, turbochargers, and wastegate channels are part of the 2013 powertrain configuration, plus a seven-speed AMG Speedshift transmission. The new output figures are 621 hp between 4,800 and 5,400 rpm, and 737 lb-ft of torque between 2,300 and 4,300 rpm. On the road, this translates to a 0-60 mph time of just 3.9 seconds, and a top speed of 186 mph (electronically limited).
Some of its new and very alluring features include a speed sensitive steering wheel, Active Body Control, sport suspensions, Mercedes COMMAND system, surround sound system by Bang & Olufsen, leather interior, and more. The electrohydraulically operated vario-roof can transform the car from coupe to roadster form in less than 20 seconds. The roof also incorporates the Magic Sky Control system that allows the driver to alter the transparency of the roof by simply touching a button.
