Research In Motion Sells Luxury Jet to Reduce Annual Costs

Research In Motion Ltd (RIM) is not doing too good, having lost much of its market value during the past few years. Famous for creating the Blackberry smartphone, the telecommunication company needs to reduce annual costs in order to face the financial difficulties that it is currently experiencing. As a solution, RIM decided to sell one of two business jets, a Dassault Aviation SA F50EX.

This sale is meant to save approximately $1 billion in annual costs, as “we’re looking at options with both our aircraft costs and finding ways to reduce our travel while still making sure we keep in close contact with our partners around the world. It’s all part of the effort to find ways to reduce costs and drive efficiencies”, RIM declared.

The company will get between $6 million and $7 million for the nine-passenger jet with light warm leather interior, gold-plated hardware, high-gloss Swiss woodwork, custom carpet, and ample storage for crystal and china. The aircraft is also equipped with two 14-inch tracking LCD video monitors, VCR, CD/DVD player, fax machine printer, and four stereo headsets.
