This very rare amber necklace will soon be offered for sale by Lawrences Auctioneers in Crewkerne, Somerset. Aside from being very beautiful and extremely appealing to amber lovers, the piece is also very special for carrying 40 million years of secret history.
Amber has the remarkable capacity of bringing the past into the present and further transporting it into the future, so it is no wonder that many like to call it ‘nature’s time capsule’. This is one of the qualities which make this particular necklace so very exciting. Each of its beads is unique and most of them bear some perfectly preserved particles of nature, including plant and insect parts.
So when you wear this lovely jewel, you actually wear flying ants, flies, beetles, bees, and other tiny creatures. It is like wearing a private museum with you at all times. The buyer will also receive a chart of the necklace, showing what has been trapped inside each bead. The gems come from the Dominican Republic, having been discovered in the La Toca mine.
