If you love innovation and imaginative design, you have to love the new Opus XIII watch from Harry Winston, designed together with Ludovic Ballouard, an independent watchmaker. The timepiece is a limited edition creation, of which only 130 pieces will be made, each priced at around $300,000.
The most spectacular thing about it is clearly the dial and the totally unconventional way in which it shows time. Right at the center there is a faceted smoked sapphire crystal dome, under which 12 triangular hour hands hide and pop out again to show the hours. The minutes are cleverly indicated by pivoting minute hands positioned all around the edge of the dial.
The 44.25 mm case is made of 18k white gold, and the beautifully polished bezel has “Harry Winston” and “Opus XIII” engraved on it. The back shows a part of the intricate mechanism inside through a clear sapphire crystal. The mechanical movement features 364 components and 242 jewels. It is manually wounded and ensures 35 hours of power reserve. With a black alligator leather strap (hand stitched) and an 18k white gold buckle, the watch can be worn even under water, to depths of up to 30 meters.
