New and Improved MB&F HM3 MegaWind Watch

AnotherHM3 watch from MB&F? Why not! The model has already enjoyed several variations, but none of them were marketed as improved versions of the original. This one, though, it reportedly is an upgraded variant, called MegaWind.

Designed in a fashion that affords better readability, the MB&F HM3 MegaWind timepiece features slightly modified time indicating cones and a massive winding rotor that occupies more of the case and eliminates the original date complication. The rotor was designed StepanSarpaneva, who made it seem symmetrical, even though it still is a regular asymmetrically spinning one. This optical illusion effect brought it the ‘mystery rotor’ moniker.

As for the improved readability of the watch, it all comes down to a few tweaks of the cones: no more day/night indicator on the top, but easily readable hour and minute information. The numbers that are displayed on the sides of the cones are also reflected on their tops, in order to help the wearer get a quick glance at the time without having to tilt the wrist for a better view.

Inside the case lies the same automatic movement as in the original, only with a few changes that were necessary to obtain the above mentioned improved features. With a titanium caseback, the MegaWind is available in 18k red or white gold, but only 40 units will be manufactured during its first production year. This isn’t, however, a limited edition, so if you don’t get the watch this year, you’ll get another chance the next.
