Napoleon’s Love Letter Auctioned Off in Moscow Today

Napoleon’s love letter to Josephine

Brave Napoleon Bonaparte was not only a fierce warrior, he was also a man of romantic feelings – believe it or not. A letter that he wrote in 1796 to his first wife, Josephine de Beauharnais, shows just how passionate he could be about love. When he wrote the letter he was 26 years old, and her loved one 32. His tender words were mixed with reproach, as he felt that Josephine’s feelings towards him were just a whim.

The small piece of history will be sold at Moscow’s Gelos art auction today. This is not the first time the letter is sold: in 2006 and 2008 it fetched $120,000 and $445,000 respectively, at auction. Today the starting price will be $50,000 and the piece is expected sell o for $119,000.
