Most Expensive Car Accident Featuring a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO (1)

It’s bad enough to have your car involved in a crash, but it must be really terrible to have your $30 million vehicle involved in what seems to be the world’s most expensive car accident.

The car: an extremely rare 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO. The driver: Christopher Cox, a now very sad multi-millionaire. The accident took place in France, when the blue-and-yellow car left the Reims-Gueux racetrack, and hurt three people in the collision, including the diver’s wife, who broke her leg.

Ever since Cox bought the car in 2005, he showcased it in numerous automotive events, being very proud to own one of only 39 examples ever built (chassis no. 3445GT). The car was originally painted red, but had its color changed in 1963 to match those of it driver, Swedish car racer Ulf Norinder.

In 1976, after being involved in another serious accident, the rare 250 GTO underwent a full restoration process. Hopefully this time things aren’t so bad.
