Marilyn Monroe is known for many things, but the night that made her truly memorable was the one in which she sang “Happy Birthday Mr. President” to John F. Kennedy. On that legendary evening, she wore a beautiful seamless crystal studded dress that will be put under the hammer at Julien’s auctions this fall. Created by Jean Louis, this attire flaunts more than 2,500 crystals that were stitched onto its surface entirely by hand.

The Marilyn Monroe wardrobe consisted of many different styles, cuts, layers, and just about anything you can think of. She wore a potato sack dress in a well known photo shoot many believe to be the result of a journalist criticizing her choice of dress worn to the Beverly Hills hotel.

Before the event, the attire had to be sown onto Marilyn’s body in order to make sure that it would be as tight as possible. Before the actual sale, the dress will tour around the world and will be showed off at the MANA Contemporary in New Jersey as part of an exhibition named “Marilyn: Character Not Image.” The auction will take place on November 17, and it will last for three days.
