The owners of this striking residence are both landscape architects, even though they also have other professions: one is an actor, the other is a dancer. This explains the gorgeous formal garden at the back of the all-glass house. The garden is sometimes open to the public, but this is obviously not the most interesting thing about the spectacular H House.
Designed by Wiel Arets Architects, the house is all covered with glass panels featuring different degrees of transparency. For an even better communication with the outdoors, some of these facades can be completely opened. The interiors were arranged to resemble a loft space. There are no structural walls inside, only several rectangular concrete columns that have been strategically positioned not to interrupt the continuity of the inside spaces.
For enhanced privacy, the owners can use the floor-to-ceiling elegant curtains. These, and the opaque glass panels ensure an intimate atmosphere whenever necessary. At the same time, the extensive use of glass opens the house to the outside world, and brings plenty of natural light inside, all year round. Check out the following photos and make sure you don’t miss the sculptural suspended staircase that links the two levels of the luxe residence.
If you want to see the real thing, or take a walk in the beautifully landscaped garden, you have to visit it in Maastricht, The Netherlands.
