Luxurious French-Style Estate in Texas for Sale

Champ d’Or (11)

One of the most impressive mansions in the United States is this astonishingly luxurious home in Hickory Creek, Texas. Called Champ d’Or (French for Field of Gold), the residence is like a shrine of opulence, with countless high-end amenities spread over 48,000 square feet of space and surrounded by over 256 acres of carefully manicured open spaces.

The main house has six bedrooms, six and a half bathrooms, plus tea rooms, dining rooms and living areas, all decorated in a royal French style. The most impressive room of all is probably the two-story walk-in closet with custom-made chandeliers and 18K yellow gold door knobs. It has separate areas for each clothing category and floor-to-ceiling mirrors, an essential detail for a room like this. The walk-in closet is worth $5 million and is actually one of the most expensive rooms in the world.

Other amenities in the main house include a home theater, a ballroom, a bowling alley, swimming pools and more. Currently owned by Alan Goldfield (remember the name of the estate?) and his wife Shirley, the property was initially listed at $70 million, but since no one seemed to be willing to pay that kind of money for it, the price was dropped to half the initial sum: $35 million. Two more residences for guests complete the estate, one with 16,000 square feet of space and another boasting 12,000 square feet.
